Guwahati, Mar 16: The Office of the Accountant General (Audit), Assam, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research, organised a State-level Colloquium on March 16, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Gauhati University Institute of Science & Technology, Guwahati, as part of the nationwide CAG–ICSSR Colloquium Series. Prof. Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR, delivered the welcome address. Shri Calvin Harris Kharshiing, Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (North Eastern Region) made the opening remarks. This was followed by addresses by Shri Gaurav Kumar, Accountant General (Audit), Assam and Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University.
Shri Bappaditya Majumdar, Deputy Accountant General presented an overview of the “State of the Finances of Assam,” highlighting the role of audit in strengthening fiscal transparency and accountability. Shri Binod Bhujel, Deputy Accountant General, made a presentation on the “Implementation of Schemes for Welfare of Tea Tribes” highlighting key audit findings in the subject.
The Colloquium also featured expert addresses by Dr. Nissar A. Barua, Professor, Department of Economics, Gauhati University and Dr. Rajdeep Singha, Associate Professor, O.K.D Institute of Social Change and Development, Guwahati. The event was attended by officers of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, academicians, researchers, faculty members, and students from academic institutions across Assam.
During the programme, the CAG–ICSSR Research Article Competition for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students was also announced. The competition carries State-level prizes of ₹75,000, ₹50,000, and ₹25,000, and National-level prizes of ₹1,25,000, ₹1,00,000, and ₹75,000. The initiative aims to promote academic engagement and enhance public awareness on fiscal governance and accountability.
