The Guwahati Theatre Society was founded with the vision of building a creative and connected community. In an era where digital interactions often replace genuine human connections, the Society aims to bridge this gap through the power of live theatre. The upcoming production reflects this mission by inviting people from all walks of life to experience thought-provoking satire and humour that touch upon universal themes of empathy, community, and social responsibility.

Gayatri Sharma, president of the Guwahati Theatre Society and a seasoned actor and drama teacher, has performed in Assamese, Hindi, and English plays at both national and international levels, including the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the National Theatre of Scotland in Glasgow. Sharma brings her vast experience and passion to this adaptation, ensuring that the themes of Gogol’s work—particularly its satirical take on corruption—resonate deeply with today’s audiences. “The play addresses corruption, a persistent issue worldwide,” Sharma stated, emphasizing the relevance of the play’s themes in contemporary society.

This adaptation, ‘Sarkari Investigator’, features a vibrant and diverse cast of 15 actors, comprising students, homemakers, professionals, and retirees, all brought together by their passion for the stage.

The Guwahati Theatre Society is committed to making theatre accessible to everyone, encouraging individuals of all ages and backgrounds to participate. This inclusive approach is evident in the cast’s makeup and the Society’s efforts to reach out to the community, inviting everyone to be part of this collective artistic expression. Sharma hopes that this production will not only entertain but also inspire reflection on societal issues, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. Tickets for the play are available on Paytm Insider.
