GUWAHATI, Nov 19: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Swahid Smarak Khetra at Boragaon on Nov 19 to review the final preparations for its inauguration on Dec 10, observed across the state as Swahid Divas. His visit drew attention as the site is set to become a major landmark honouring the martyrs of the Assam Movement.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister closely reviewed the finishing work around the newly built Swahid Smarak, a towering monument designed to reflect Assam’s collective memory and gratitude. Officials briefed him on the progress, while he suggested key measures to ensure the memorial stands firm as a long-term tribute to those who laid down their lives.
The Swahid Smarak Khetra, positioned as a central space of remembrance, is expected to attract visitors from across Assam when it opens on Dec 10. The state government aims to make the site a culturally significant destination, reinforcing the history and emotional legacy of the movement that shaped modern Assam.
