MARGHERITA, Aug 21: Hartalika Teej was celebrated on Sunday at Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha Bhawan, Margherita. It was organised by ‘Jai Bhojpuri Jai Bhojpuria’ Assam branch chapter.
Hartalika Teej celebrates the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On this auspicious day, women pray for a blissful marriage and for the well-being of their family members.
Anand Sharma, chairman of Margherita Municipal Board; Debendar Panday, noted social worker of Margherita; Mithun Baruah, treasurer; Bikash Baruah, vice president and Abdul Aalim, executive member of Margherita Journalist Association; Ashok Agarwal, noted social worker of Margherita; Children Friends Club, president, Pappu Sah; Jun Pradhan, working president of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Margherita district committee; Shyam Upadhyay; Kamlesh Kumar Dubey; Om Prakash Sah; Jadu Bans Upadhyay; Maya Choubey, coordinator of ‘Jai Bhojpuri Jai Bhojpuria’ Assam branch chapter and many more distinguished and resource persons of Margherita were present at the programme.
Anand Sharma in his inaugural speech said that if literature and culture has survived in our country that is only due to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as both of the states are rich in culture and literature. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have produced the highest number of Hindi litterateurs, poets, writers.
Our country is very grateful for this and thus the legacy has to be continued by the next generation, said Anand Sharma.
Participants from Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Dholla, Sadiya, Doomdooma, Digboi and Margherita came to attend the programme and perform their traditional songs and dance which enthralled the attendees.
The whole programme was moderated by Maya Choubey, coordinator of ‘Jai Bhojpuri Jai Bhojpuria’ Assam branch chapter.
All the participants were felicitated with an appreciation letter.
