Several organisations and individuals paid rich tribute to the eminent artiste on his first death anniversary

Tezpur, Oct 29: Hemanta Kumar Barua Memorial Youth Award for the first time was conferred on Gunakar Dev Goswami, eminent playwright, theatre director, actor, trainer and director of Purbaranga, an organisation of performing arts on Saturday at a function held for the first death anniversary celebration of Hemanta Kumar Barua at Baan Theatre here.

Pallab Lochan Das, MP, Tezpur while attending as the guest of honour in the programme remembered the contribution of Hemanta Kumar Barua to the society in a short span of life and his attachment with late Barua during the past years.

In his speech MP Das added that he was always guided by Hemanta Kumar Barua in the hours of need in carrying out his social and political life. MLA, Tezpur, Prithiraj Rabha in his speech also recalled the memories of Barua and his close association with him who showed excellence in all fields from song, drama, speech, quiz conducting and said that time can never destroy such talent.

The daylong death anniversary program presided over by Birendra Kumar Bora was started with a Borgeet performed by Tribeni Bhattacharya and a recitation done by Rubee Bora. Deputy commissioner, Sonitpur Deba Kumar Mishra  inaugurated ‘Sabyasachi’ a souvenir published  for the occasion which was edited jointly by  Dwijen Nath and  Pankaj Barua and lauded the efforts initiated by different organisation and people of Tezpur to keep alive the memory of a multi-talented personality like Hemanta Kumar Barua and his innumerable contribution and dedicated service left for us.

Ritubaran Sarma, vice chairman Amtron, Dr. Bhupen Saikia, president, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Eminent physician of Tezpur Dr. Pradip Barua, Likhan Sarma, principal, Jyoti Kala Kendra Music College also remembered the lifelong contribution and service rendered by Hemanta Kumar Barua  for the overall benevolence of  the society of Tezpur in their speech.

Gunakar Dev Goswami while receiving the award conferred on him said that in such a mechanical world we should always follow the ideology of the persons like Hemanta Kumar Barua who tried to led us to the way of culmination of human and social values by his activities.

The tribute paying ceremony held at the outset was inaugurated by wife Himadri Baruah and daughter Ankita Baruah by lighting lanterns in front of the portrait of Hemanta Kumar Barua. Rich tribute was paid during the programme by several organisations and individuals including  Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das, Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rabha, deputy commissioner, Sonitpur Deba Kumar Mishra, Baan Theatre family, International photo artist Nalini Kanta Barua, Birendra Kumar Bora, president, Sonitpur Shilpi Samaj, former president of Baan Theatre Mahendra Nath Keot, prominent playwright and director Aishwarya Kakati, Dr. Abani Kumar Sharma, retired principal, Darrang College, Rabindra Nath Sharma, president, Tarun Asam Sangha, Bhuban Chandra Gogoi, president, Padmanath Gohain Barua Branch Sahitya Sabha, Anil Kumar Bhattacharya, president, Chatak, Jyoti Kala Kendra, principal Likhan Sarma, Shantanu Barua, secretary of Asomiya Bhasa Unnati Sadhini Sabha, veteran actress Kalpana Kalita, Tarulata Das, Durgamoyee Bora, Dr. Pradeep Barua and other dignitaries.
