I-CARD organises seminar on folk beliefs among Mising tribe

JORHAT, Oct 26: Institution for Culture And Rural Development (I-CARD) at Baghchung here held its 24th seminar on the topic ‘Folk beliefs among Misings – Meaning of these beliefs, the hidden truths, scientific rationality, the compatibility with other communities and their impact on Mising society’ from October 21 to 23.
An I-CARD official informed that principal of Jorhat College, Dr Devabrata Sharma who was the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony, in his address, urged the Mising community to explore the world with their hidden talent.
The official informed that I-CARD assistant director, Father Santosh Mundu said, “The topic of this seminar was a fitting tribute to the wisdom of the ancestors of the Mising community who preserved and handed over to their later generations.”
A total of 32 papers were presented on various sub-topics in the seminar by the participants. The official informed that Father KA Thomas, the I-CARD founder-director, encouraged the participants to remain strong in their efforts to preserve Mising culture.
He also mentioned that the first Mising Museum located at I-CARD, which was inaugurated in December last year, required the community’s contribution in terms of artefacts and other help.
Father Thomas also announced the topic for next year’s seminar: ‘The contributions of the Misings to the Freedom Movement of India’, the official concluded.
