GUWAHATI, July 6: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday exuded confidence in a historic victory for the BJP-led NDA in the 2026 Assembly elections, citing an upcoming wave of welfare schemes set to roll out from August.
Addressing reporters here, Sarma stated, “As we are starting a new wave of welfare schemes from August, which will continue until February, the results can be any number given the unprecedented welfare schemes we are rolling out from August 16.”

He added, “I can feel the vibes—the result will be unprecedented, and the NDA will be somewhere in the sky.”
The CM’s remarks signal the BJP’s early election strategy, focusing on welfare initiatives to consolidate support ahead of the polls.
While he did not disclose specifics of the schemes, sources suggest they may include enhanced financial aid, housing projects, and agricultural support.
Political analysts view Sarma’s statement as an attempt to counter opposition criticism over unemployment and inflation while reinforcing the BJP’s development narrative.
The opposition Congress and AIUDF, however, dismissed the claims as “election gimmicks,” accusing the government of delaying benefits until the poll cycle.
The BJP, which secured 75 seats in the 2021 elections, aims to expand its dominance in 2026.
With Sarma’s aggressive campaigning and welfare promises, the party is banking on a repeat of its 2016 and 2021 performances—but the opposition insists anti-incumbency and grassroots discontent could alter the outcome.
