JORHAT, March 30: A bust of renowned 20th century entrepreneur Saud Bholanath Borooah was installed on Wednesday in the premises of Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering and Technology (POWIET).
The bust was unveiled by POWIET principal Dhanjit Sharma and the initiative was taken by Bholanath Borooah Branch of Sahitya Sabha within the POWIET campus.
Saud Bholanath Borooah, who is said to have been one of the richest men in India during the early 1900s had donated Rs 1 lakh in 1922 for setting up of POWIET.
Borooah had also donated the land and Rs 50000 for setting up of the B Borooah College in Guwahati.
Borooah, who hailed from Puranigudam in Nagaon district later shifted to Kolkata. He also had enterprises in Odisha and Bihar.
Borooah, who is also known for his philanthropy, is said to have donated land and money to several educational institutes in the four states of West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Assam.
