JORHAT, May 7: The new Jorhat Municipal Board chairperson of the BJP Lakhimi Khargaria said that she would tackle the civic problems of Jorhat one by one.
Addressing the media persons at her office chamber in the Unnayan Bhawan on Saturday, Khargaria said that she would find solutions to the problems faced by the citizens of Jorhat such as: no supply of clean water, traffic jams and parking spaces for vehicles, garbage dumping, a place to settle hawkers and roadside vendors among others.
She said that the Board was looking at a site in the Meleng area of the district where the garbage could be disposed of in a scientific manner.
She further stated that regarding the parking problem, the Board was mulling on imposing more fees for vehicles parked at any place beyond a stipulated time frame of one or two hours and is yet to be fixed.
Similarly, the vendors would have to be shifted to some particular market place, she said.
Vice chairman of the Board, Dilip Kumar Dutta was also present on the occasion.
The BJP with a majority of 11 seats out of 19 seats has formed the Jorhat Municipal Board. This is the second term that the Board has been formed by the BJP.
