Journalist Pranab Sinha Remembered

TEZPUR, May 1: Senior journalist and founder president of Sonitpur Journalists’ Union Pranab Sinha was remembered on Sunday at a commemoration programme held at the office of the Sonitpur Journalists’ Union on his 9th death anniversary. Remembered as one of the pathfinders of the media persons of the then undivided Darrang district after having a wide contribution towards the media field for a long stint he had passed away on May 1 in 2014. Besides having involvement with a number of local English and vernacular newspapers including Assamese biweekly ‘Mahajati’ published from Tezpur under the aegis of his father, then Tezpur MP Dr. Purna Narayan Sinha, he had consistently contributed to frontline news agencies like UNI and PTI till his death. He was the founder president of Sonitpur Journalists’ Union and always raised his voice for the rights of the media persons of the district.

Attending the commemoration programme, Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rava, Sonitpur DC Deba Kumar Mishra, retired professor of Tezpur College Pranjit Hazarika, noted playwright Aiswarya Kakati, president of All Assam Journalists’ Union, Pankaj Kumar Nath and a host of media persons paid their tributes to the senior journalist.

It is pertinent to mention here that in memory of the noted journalist an award is being given to one having contribution towards the benevolence of the society since 2015. This year the award has been conferred on folk artist Dinaram Boro of Barbil-Naharbari area as recognition towards his unmatched contribution towards folk culture of Assam. The event was conducted by executive members of Sonitpur Journalist Union, Pulak Kumar Deka and moderated by Pranab Kumar Das.
