DIPHU, May 12: Richard Tokbi, the education in-charge, stated on Sunday that the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) will provide all necessary support to students appearing for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
He informed that all expenses, including travel, food, and lodging, for students from both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, who have already passed their HS final year examination and are seeking post-graduate courses, will be covered by the KAAC relief fund.
“We have received information about the difficulties facing students appearing for the CUET exam as there are no examination centres here in Karbi Anglong right now. Our CEM, Tuliram Ronghang Sir, has assured us that he will support all those students appearing for the CUET exam for their entire expenses, including travel, food, and lodging,” stated the EM during a press conference.
The EM also shared that in Karbi Anglong district alone, there are 4,572 students in the Arts stream, 492 students in Commerce, and 770 in Science streams preparing to appear for the exam. Meanwhile, in West Karbi Anglong, there are 1,463 students in the Arts stream and 25 students in the Commerce stream slated to appear for the CUET exam.
There are no students from the Science stream.
In Assam, there are eight CUET examination centres, including Guwahati, Golaghat, Tezpur, Silchar, and Dhimaji. The nearest CUET examination centre for Karbi Anglong is in Dimapur, Nagaland.
The EM further mentioned that the KAAC authority has initiated the process of setting up a CUET examination centre in Karbi Anglong with New Delhi.
Additionally, the EM informed that both HSLC and HS results have improved with increasing pass percentages. However, there is still room for improvement, and he urged all stakeholders, including social organizations, to extend their cooperation in cultivating an educational atmosphere in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
Furthermore, APSC and UPSC free coaching centres have already been established in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, he noted.
The press meet was attended by EM, KAAC, and BJP MP candidate Amarsing Tisso; secretary, KAAC education, Dilip Terang; inspector of Schools, Karbi Anglong, Birensing Engti; and principal incharge, Diphu Government College, Mauzzam Husain Barbhuiya.
CUET is the premier entrance test for admission to 249 universities, including 54 prestigious central universities. It is based on a mission – One India Entrance Exam – to unify all disparate education boards, marking schemes, difficulty levels, and various tests conducted by different universities. Instead of struggling to clear astronomical cutoffs for the best colleges, all students get to compete on a common platform with uniform scoring. CUET has streamlined the admission process for students to secure seats in their preferred colleges.
The CUET exam is scheduled from May 15 to 18 in various centres across the country, with 8 centres in Assam.
