KOKRAJHAR, Jan 2: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Monday observed the 80th birth anniversary of late Kanakeswar Narzary, founder general secretary of ABSU at Lakshnabari Tinali ME School’s playground near Ramfalbill in Kokrajhar district.
Notably, late Narzary was a former chief executive member of Bodoland Autonomous Council (now defunct) and regarded as one of prominent leaders of Bodoland Statehood Movement and also a well-known social thinker.
He was from Tengaigaon village, near Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district and died on October 12, 2003.
He was also popularly known as Khungkra Narzary among the Bodos through his bold leadership while awakening Bodos and tribal communities. He was also known as penman for his writings.
ABSU vice president Khwrwmdao Wary hoisted the union flag followed by Hirabai Narzary paying homage to her late husband Kanakeswar Narzary.
A sapling plantation programme was also carried out to mark the observation. Former MLA and ex ABSU general secretary, Parmeswar Brahma inaugurated the sapling plantation programme followed by an open discussion on the contributions and life sketch of late Kanakeswar Narzary which was held with ABSU vice president Wary in the chair.
ABSU vice president Wary recalled the contributions of late Narzary towards the welfare and upliftment of the Bodo community as well down trodden communities in the state while adding that ABSU and Bodo community will remember the ideology and philosophy of late Narzary.
Among others, noted writers and retired principals of Kokrajhar Government College, Dr Surath Narzary, Dr Binoy Kumar Brahma, principal of Gossaigaon College, Dr Kumud Ranjan Basumatary were among the prominent attendees in the event.
