HOWRAGHAT, Dec 22: The fourth biennial session of the Karbi Anglong District Lekhika Samaroh Samiti (Women Writers’ Association) concluded successfully on Sunday at Rangsina Bhavan in Diphu, bringing together women writers, literary enthusiasts and cultural figures from across the district for a day-long programme.
The session began with the ceremonial hoisting of the organisational flag by Sabitri Gogoi, President of the Karbi Anglong District Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, followed by Smriti Tarpan led by Dipali Amphi, President of the Diphu Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, in memory of departed literary personalities.
As part of the inaugural rituals, ceremonial lamps were lit before the portraits of Padma Shri Dr Sheela Borthakur and noted artiste Zubeen Garg by Hiranmayi Kakati, Advisor of the Bokajan Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, and Anupama Saikia, Vice-President of the committee.
The open session commenced at 11 am under the chairmanship of Sabitri Gogoi.
Former All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti president Swarna Baruah Gogoi attended as chief guest and spoke on the evolving role of women in literature.
Writer and artiste Hridayananda Sarma was present as special guest, while the souvenir of the session was formally released by senior journalist and writer Pabitra Bora.
During the programme, the Samiti felicitated veteran contributors Bimala Patar, Bina Borbora, Rina Dutta and Gitanjali Das Kro in recognition of their long-standing contributions to the literary field.
The results of various literary competitions held as part of the biennial session were also announced.
Winners in the essay writing category included Mayuri Debnath, Bhanumati Nath, Rupali Borthakur and Bornali Gogoi, while Parimita Goswami, Swapna Sarkar and Biju Kakati emerged winners in the short story writing category.
The session concluded with the formation of a new executive body for the upcoming term.
Sabitri Gogoi was re-elected as President, while Chayarani Bora Barman was appointed Secretary. Outgoing Secretary Swarnali Gogoi presented a detailed report highlighting the activities and achievements of the previous term.
