JORHAT, Oct 8: Assam’s Kaziranga University at Koraikhowa, on the outskirts of Jorhat, has clarified that Shyamkanu Mahanta, recently arrested in connection with the Zubeen Garg death case, is no longer a member of the university’s Governing Body (GB).
In response to media reports suggesting that Mahanta remained a GB member, the university issued a statement on Wednesday evening, stating that his membership was officially terminated with effect from February 8, 2025, following a resolution passed during the Governing Body meeting on February 7, 2025. The statement noted that Mahanta had rarely attended GB meetings during his tenure and was not actively involved in any university functions in any capacity.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and accountable governance structure. The Governing Body continues to function effectively under the leadership of its active members, ensuring that all decisions are made in the interest of academic excellence and institutional growth.
