LGBI Airport Takes Green Initiatives For Nature Conservation Day

GUWAHATI, July 27: On the occasion of Nature Conservation Day 2022, LGBI Airport has taken some unique initiatives for a greener India. The main reason for celebrating this day is to conserve animals and plants that are going extinct from the natural environment. As part of the recent initiatives, currently 20,000 saplings, plants and trees can be found in the airport. Among them, 10,000 are indoor, 10,000 are outdoor in different varieties. The airport has a total green cover of 5 acres’ landscape which is being developed in a speedy manner. Moreover, there are 35 varieties of plants, 10 varieties of flowers and some fruiting plants such as Mango and Guava are also there in the airport. Many fern varieties and Chinese varieties for indoor plants are also available. The airport is going to install a 1050 sq. ft vertical green wall at the outside of the arrival area. The airport is also developing a poly house for growing vegetables indoor plants and for other ornamental plant saplings. The airport has planted many plants which are off season like snake plants, Neem tree and Peepal tree which release oxygen and at the same time reduce pollution too. The airport has planted 600 air purifying plants for the benefit of the passengers as well as for the stakeholders working for day and night. Recently the airport is developing a Flora and Fauna garden in the airport’s existing road which is very much visible for each passenger while existing. Many specific animal statues have also been placed to attract the transit passengers. Now onwards, those passengers who have connecting flights, can easily spend their leisure times in flora and Fauna gardens. Meanwhile, in 2019, it was only two acres and recently they have developed three additional acres of garden and are also planning for a four acres landscape developing garden which is being progress. The airport deployed an efficient Horticulture department who has been planning and implementing their field with their best effort and they have imposed no technique of garden development and also they have engaged manpower on daily basis for different work of development and maintenance of landscape. Hydroponic system in nursery, vertical wall, water musical fountain, Rock garden, tropical garden and informal and formal garden which will be completed within this year.
