TEZPUR, Sept 19: As a part of the innovative education system carried forward by Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a life skill training programme was organised among the students of Khelmati High School under inspector of schools, Sonitpur on Monday to provide an in-depth knowledge and to keep pace with the situation that one faces in his or her life. The two-hour long training programme started at 10 am.
The programme was formally inaugurated by school head Janmoni Devi in presence of departmental school coordinators namely Sumi Borah and Suni Kachari. Besides other teachers, the programme was attended by over 150 students of the school.
Taking part as resource person, principal of Rangapara-Phulbari TE Model School, Padum Das spoke how everything should be taken positively in life. Delving into the subject ‘What is life-skill?’ he said that life skill is usually used for any of the skills that are needed to be dealt well and effectively with the changing course of life. Defining certain skills may be more or less relevant to one’s life circumstances, culture, beliefs, age, geographic location, etc., he also suggested the students to adopt new skills that are related with one’s life including communication and interpersonal skill, decision-making and problem solving, creative thinking and critical thinking, self-awareness and empathy, assertiveness and equanimity or self-control, resilience and ability to cope up with problems, etc.
“However, perhaps the most important life-skill is the ability and willingness to learn as by learning new skills, we increase our understanding of the world around us and equip ourselves with the tools we need to live a more productive and fulfilled life, finding ways to cope with the challenges that life, inevitably, throws on us,” he said.
He also screened a few short movies to make the idea of life-skills more clear.
