NAGAON, May 28:
A section of businessmen allegedly erected permanent commercial structures at the government land on the north bank of Kolong river near Madhabdev path at Majorati Chariali and doing illegal trade of drugs consignment as well as cannabis for long.
Some local women of the greater areas approached deputy commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah and submitted a memorandum in this regard. A couple of weeks back following which DC Shah sent a magistrate along with forces to conduct a probe into the public grievances at those illegal commercial establishments during which the probe team was able to seize over 15 kilograms of cannabis from those outlets.
Meanwhile, DC Narendra Kumar Shah directed Nagaon municipality board to conduct an eviction drive against those illegal commercial establishments at Majorati Chariali, sources said, adding that following the strict direction from the deputy commissioner, Nagaon, the authority concerned of Nagaon municipality board issued an eviction notice against those illegal commercial establishments on May 16 last, asking the owners of those illegal commercial establishments to clear all the illegal commercial structures within three days failing which the authority of Nagaon municipality board will initiate its action of its own to clear the land so far.
Surprisingly, due to reasons unknown, the authority concerned of Nagaon municipality board postponed its eviction drive against those illegal encroachers. It’s alleged by some locals that the illegal encroachers have managed one of board members of the municipality board through unfair means and allegedly diverted the entire measure initiated by the authority of district administration to another direction. The locals demanded to carry out a massive eviction drive against those illegal encroachers as early as possible, otherwise they would go for further democratic move against the illegal encroachers as well as the authority concerned of Nagaon municipality board here.
