GUWAHATI, JULY 21: In a major achievement in the battle against human trafficking, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) located at Dispur Police Station in Assam effectively foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued five victims on Sunday evening.
The operation, conducted swiftly and effectively, has won approval from society and has brought into focus the Assam Police’s unflinching dedication to fighting crimes of human exploitation.
Based on reliable intelligence, the Dispur Police unit conducted a special operation and arrested four persons linked to an illegal trafficking ring. The accused were Hemanta Borah (32) of Chatia, Jainur Ali (38) of Dodora, and Aminul Islam (36) of Lakhipur. A female suspect, whose name has not been made public, was also arrested. The four are all in custody now while legal action is in progress.
Five people who were trafficked for purposes yet unknown were safely rescued during the operation. The victims are confirmed to be safe and are being given the required care, such as counseling and rehabilitation services, according to authorities. Their identities were kept confidential to maintain their privacy and well-being.
Dispur Police confirmed through a social media platform X post that a legal case has been filed against the accused under applicable laws. An investigation is ongoing to find out the extent of the trafficking network and if there are any more accomplices involved.
