March past to commemorate birth anniv of Lachit Borphukan organised

HAFLONG, Nov 19: To commemorate the 400th birth centenary of Bir Lachit Borphukan, the Dima Hasao Police took out a march past in Haflong main street on Saturday.
More than 444 men and women from different contingent of Assam Police, 5th APBN, apart from 32 Assam Rifle BN, Boys Scout, Girls Scout and NCC participated in the rally, in presence of Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kumar and dignitaries.
A rally was also taken out by the district administration, in presence of Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Nazreen Ahamed and other dignitaries from Cultural Institute Hall, Haflong.
After a floral tribute to the portrait of Bir Lachit Borphukan, Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kumar addressed the forces and the public. He said, “The police organised a three-days program to commemorate and to pay tribute to Bir Lachit Borphukan. The programme was initiated by the Assam government.”
SP Kumar also informed and appealed to people to come forward to take part in the grand celebration by participating in the essay writing competition as the essays will be available on the portal lachitbarphukan.assam.gov.in which was launched by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 26. By participating in the competition, not only the participants will contribute in preserving the history for the future generations, they will also be paying tribute to the great and brave son of the nation.
Apart from that, to commemorate the significant day, the Dima Hasao Police will also organise a cleanliness drive, tree plantation and a blood donation camp in the premises of Haflong PS, which will be done simultaneously in different parts of the district.
On the other hand, the Dima Hasao district administration will conduct a week long program on tree plantation in public places, essay writing, art competition, extempore speeches, quiz competition in school/colleges, blood donation camp at Civil Hospital, cultural procession, dance competition, and traditional sports. On November 24, district level celebration will be held at District Library Auditorium which will include PM Narendra Modi’s online address to the nation on the occasion of Lachit Divas.
