Memorial service held for journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty

MORIGAON, Feb 28: In memory of veteran journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty, a memorial service was organised by the Morigaon District Journalist Association (MDJA) at its meeting hall here on Saturday.

The memorial service was presided over by MDJA president Ajit Sarma in the presence of distinguished guests and leaders of leading organisations of Morigaon district. Earlier, senior journalist of MDJA, Mahendra Nath Hazarika, lit the ceremonial lamp at the programme. This was followed by a floral tribute offered by senior journalist Bubumoni Goswami. The programme was conducted by MDJA secretary Guljarilal Sarma.

Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist Dalim Phukan delivered a speech on the life and works of Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty. He spoke about how the late Chakraborty dedicated his life to journalism and sought to reform Assamese society through his creative writings in various newspapers.

During the programme, senior journalist Bubumoni Goswami recalled the contributions of the veteran journalist and social activist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty. Senior journalist Pratap Hazarika, former MDJA president Birinch Sarma, MZSS president, MDLB president Harmuhan Kalita, former MDLB president Haren Bora, AGP general secretary Santanu Sarma and MDJA vice-president Kalpataru Chaudhary also spoke on the life and contributions of the veteran journalist.
