DIBRUGARH, Aug 7: Assam Government’s minister for Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Bimal Borah on Friday asked industry heads of the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) to create more awareness programs to intensify entrepreneurial engagement. Bora said this while attending a review meeting held at the BPCL premises located in the Dibrugarh town’s Lepetkata area to discuss issues related to marketing strategies, use of advanced technologies for plastic industries and role of banks in successful implementation of government sponsored schemes.
The meeting also discussed the scope of downstream plastic industries with raw materials from BCPL. Popularly known as the Assam Gas Cracker Project, the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited is the largest petrochemical plant of the north-eastern region with a varied range of clients that include Godrej Group, Hindustan Unilever, and Dabur India.
With the recent nationwide ban on single use plastic and the environmental hazards caused by the continuous use of plastic, one of the most prominent aspects of discussions revolved around the development of alternate technologies for the production of biodegradable plastic.
The minister also urged everyone to make use of all the benefits under the PMEGP and MSME programs to help develop the entrepreneurial sector in the state.
