Minor leak reported from kitchen floor in Jaysagar

SIVASAGAR, July 12: A leak resembling crude oil from the kitchen floor of a residence in Jonaki Nagar, Jaysagar created a stir among locals on Saturday morning, prompting swift response from local authorities and the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

The incident occurred at the home of Krishna Das, who reported that his family had been experiencing a persistent foul odour and signs of underground leakage for several months.

The situation attracted attention after a visible seepage of a crude-like substance appeared on the floor, raising concerns over a possible oil leak.

Local police arrived at the scene soon after being informed.

Simultaneously, ONGC’s Assam Asset dispatched a technical team to inspect the location and determine the nature and source of the leak.

In an official statement issued later in the day, ONGC clarified that the incident involved a minor leak of effluent water containing traces of floating oil.

The seepage was observed at Jonaki Nagar, Rudrasagar, Sivasagar, specifically in the area between Group Gathering Station 2 (GGS-2) and Group Gathering Station 3 (GGS-3).

The ONGC team promptly isolated the leak upon arrival and initiated repair work.

According to the statement, the area has been secured and all standard safety protocols have been implemented on site.

“There is no threat to public safety or the environment. ONGC remains committed to ensuring public safety,” the release stated.

Repair efforts are currently ongoing.

Authorities have assured residents that there is no cause for alarm, and the situation is under control.
