Mock drill enhances disaster preparedness

HAMREN, Oct 23: A drill was initiated by the incident commander in charge and branch officer, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), West Karbi Anglong. The mock exercise began at 11:00 am and concluded by 2:00 pm. During the exercise, search and rescue operations were demonstrated by the SDRF team, Hamren, and evacuation from a first-storey building was also conducted by the NDRF team. The NDRF team demonstrated evacuation techniques from a closed hazardous building using a Video Locating Camera (VLC) and RP saw, as well as performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the students. Students were also taught how to respond when earthquakes strike, following the simple concept of DROP – Cover and Hold.

The mock drill was conducted in the presence of Pranab Deorah, ACS and district project officer cum liaison officer, DDMA, West Karbi Anglong; Rupjoy Maibangsa; inspector Pintu Kumar Seal, NDRF, 1st Bn, Patgaon, Guwahati; sub inspectors Pankaj Bhakat and Surendar Lal; JE NDRF; Manik Timung, SDRF team in charge cum fire service; police personnel; APRO; DIPRO; and representatives from medical, PWD Roads, FCS & CA, Women AAPDA Mitra, PHED, etc., at Government HS Hamren. The entire mock exercise was conducted under the guidance and supervision of District Magistrate cum chairman, DDMA, West Karbi Anglong, Saranga Pani Sarma, ACS.
