Morigaon hosts joint meeting of NGOs on disaster preparedness and management

MORIGAON, July 5: A joint general meeting of voluntary organisations under the banner of the District Inter-Agency Group was held in Morigaon on Saturday, with a focus on disaster preparedness and management.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Morigaon District Disaster Management Authority and took place at the office of the Morigaon Zila Gramya Puthibharal Santha.

The meeting was chaired by District Inter-Agency Group Chairman Mahendra Saikia and saw participation from various stakeholders involved in grassroots-level disaster mitigation efforts.

District Commissioner Anamika Tewari attended the meeting as the chief guest.

In his address, Pratap Hazarika, President of the All Assam Gramya Puthibharal Santha, raised concern over recurring natural disasters in the region, particularly floods and landslides.

He appealed to the district administration to provide specialised training to NGO workers to enable them to assist more effectively during such emergencies.

The meeting was moderated by District Inter-Agency Group Secretary Balladev Nath and was attended by several dignitaries including Additional District Commissioner Anusuya Sharma, Morigaon Zila Gramya Puthibharal Santha President Ramesh Chandra Kakati, and farmer leader Tulsi Deka.

Speaking on the occasion, Deka emphasised the importance of collective action in addressing natural disasters.

He noted that many challenges can be resolved effectively when NGOs and administrative agencies work together in a coordinated manner. The meeting concluded with a renewed call for strengthening inter-agency collaboration and equipping volunteers with the necessary skills to respond swiftly and efficiently during times of crisis.
