BAITHALANGSO, Dec 27: People have urged the Justice Rumi Kumar Phukan-led inquiry commission, looking into the November 22 Mukroh firing incident, to extend the date of public hearing to January 9.
Six persons including five Meghalaya citizens and a Forest Home Guard, Bidyasing Lekthe from Karbi Anglong lost their lives in the incident.
The state government on November 23 had constituted the inquiry commission.
The commission had earlier fixed December 27 as the date for public hearing to ask any persons or organisations having knowledge of the facts and circumstances relating to the incident to appear and submit the statement to the commission at Dongkamukam Irrigation guest house.
On Tuesday, several persons including leaders of student’s organisations like the KSA-Thangsing Timung faction attended the public hearing. But the public and student bodies were unhappy with the public hearing as it did not get a wide publicity and the public had no information about it.
Chairman, Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS), Khorsing Teron said the public did not have any information about Tuesday’s public hearing.
Teron further said, “We demand that it should be conducted on another date so that public and social organisations can submit relevant documents and facts.”
