JORHAT, Sept 9: The National Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA),
Jorhat, settled a total of 2,037 cases on Saturday. These cases were heard in 10 benches of Judicial
courts in Jorhat, Titabar, and two additional benches in the District Magistrate office, Jorhat.
The cases resolved covered a range of compoundable criminal and civil matters, including those related
to the Negotiable Instruments Act, Motor Vehicles Act, bank recovery cases, APDCL electricity bills
(excluding non-compoundable cases), and BSNL, among others.
Devojyoti Bhuyan, secretary-cum-judicial officer of DLSA (Jorhat), reported that a total of Rs 1,46,58,660
was realised from bank recovery, BSNL, and electricity recovery cases. Additionally, pending court cases
worth Rs 2,73,00,000 were settled during the National Lok Adalat.
The event saw the participation of 29 institutions, including various banks, APDCL, and BSNL.
Bhuyan urged the public to take advantage of Lok Adalats, which provide a cost-effective and amicable
means of settling disputes. The next National Lok Adalat is scheduled for December 9 this year.
