Nedan Foundation observes ‘World Day Against Trafficking in Persons’

KOKRAJHAR, July 31: The ‘World Day Against Trafficking in Persons’ was observed here in Kokrajhar on Saturday with various day-long programmes scheduled. Nedan Foundation observed the event with the theme ‘Use and abuse of technology’ at Weaving Destination Campus, Anthaigwlao, near Chandrapara in Kokrajhar.
Rescued children lodged at Destination Girls Home, Nedan Foundation fraternity, and local citizens from Chandrapara participated in the programme.
A skit was performed by the rescued children of Destination Girls Home which highlighted the issues of betrayal, luring of children for trafficking and organ selling. Games and drawing competitions were also conducted to mark the theme ‘Use and abuse of technology’.
Earlier, the programme started with the welcome song and dance performed by the girl inmates of Destination Girls Home followed by the welcome address by Reshma Narzary. Mayami Sangma, Bhaigyashree Daimari, interns of Nedan Foundation from Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati coordinated the programme.
Project coordinator NEDAN foundation, Sikwana Brahma, talked about the negative uses of mobile phones and how it helps in creating a network for traffickers. He explicates about the theme of the program and how technology has helped in rising trafficking related crime to the attendees.
Amar Borgayary, project manager of Nedan Foundation talked about the responsibility of every citizen in combating child trafficking. He said that stopping child trafficking is not the concern of only a few individuals but society as a whole.
