NEDLF organises awareness rally on World Hepatitis Day

GUWAHATI, July 28: ‘Run for Your Liver’ a rally for the greater awareness and prevention of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C was organised on Thursday by North East Digestive and Liver Foundation (NEDLF) as part of its week-long hepatitis awareness campaign.
Keshab Mahanta, minister of Health & Family Welfare, who was present as the chief guest at the event flagged off the rally which started at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital and concluded at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati. Present on the occasion, were Samujjal Bhattacharya, chief advisor-AASU; Kanak Sen Deka, chief editor of Dainik Agradoot; Naresh Kalita, editor of Niyamiya Barta; Debashish Sarma, commissioner-Guwahati Municipal Corporation; Chetana Das, actor, and Dr. Achyut Ch. Baishya, principal-cum-chief superintendent, GMCH. Notably, over 3000 participants took part in the rally.
On the occasion, Keshab Mahanta, minister of Health & Family Welfare said, “This day reminds us of how important our health is. Dr. BD Goswami’s foundation North East Digestive & Liver Foundation has been observing this day for the past several years in association with GMCH. And GMCH has also been taking steps to prevent Hepatitis.”
Dr. BD Goswami, senior gastroenterologist, and hepatologist added, “We are very glad that our efforts to create awareness on Hepatitis are receiving support from various quarters. Witnessing such huge participation in the rally shows the importance of the subject and the seriousness amongst all. We hope to reach out to the masses with our efforts in the coming years.”
