NEIST observes foundation day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research

JORHAT, Nov 24: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-North East Institute Of Science And Technology (NEIST) at Pulibor, celebrated 81st Foundation Day of CSIR in a function held at the Dr JN Baruah Auditorium of the institute on Wednesday.
A CSIR-NEIST official informed that former vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain, who was the chief guest on the occasion delivered the foundation day lecture.
Professor Buragohain emphasised on the importance of policy making for sustainable development and importance of an inclusive representation of all in the society while formulating any policy.
He also mentioned climate change and about long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, ecological security, etc. The former vice chancellor stressed on basic element of water and food security, air quality and green environment, gender inclusivity in a way that does not discriminate against any particular sex.
He spoke about confronting climate change, its strategies for mitigation, lowering global CO2 levels and adaptation to the environment and how ecological security can be attained by equalising factors like human and abiotic environment, human and animals, etc.
Earlier, the CSIR-NEIST director Dr G Narahari Sastry gave the welcome address. Dr Sastry highlighted significant technological interventions of CSIR over the years in various sectors.
He specially mentioned the contributions made in improving the quality of lives of the people, creating livelihood opportunities and other applications in environment, health, food, housing, farm and non-farm sectors.
On the occasion, the employees who retired during September, 2020 to August 2022, were felicitated with CSIR Sanman Patras, shawls and mementos and also those who completed 25 years in council’s service were felicitated with token gifts.
Certificates and prizes were also distributed to the winners of various competitions held under ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ celebration in the institute.
The institute also presented the studentship award and cash award to Atmadip Goswami for significant achievement in HS (Science) and for getting admission in IIT, Chennai, the official concluded.
