New SMB members feted

SIVASAGAR, May 31: Sanmilita Byabasayee Santha, Sivasagar on Sunday felicitated the new ward commissioners of Sivasagar Municipality Board (SMB) in a meeting held at Marowari Milan Mandir. Bakul Borthakur, president, Sanmilita Byabasayee Santha delivered the welcome speech. Bakul Borthakur and Keshavananda Barua, secretary, Byabasayee Santha handed over a memorandum to the chairperson, SMB showcasing the civic problems of the town.
Mrinali Konwar, chairperson, SMB, in her speech said that the new SMB will soon carry out a drive to improve traffic congestion in the town responding to the resident’s demand. Further, she said that it is time to take the next step towards modernisation of the town with improved infrastructure. She said that SMB will construct steel railings along some footpaths and improve them with new RCC slabs. She also said that eviction drives will be undertaken against vendors displaying their wares on the roadside. She urged the residents and businesses community to co-operate with SMB in its effort to give the shape of a modern Sivasagar town as desired by the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sanjeev Bora, vice president, in his speech assured the participants that SMB will soon take to on-line payment modes in tax collection and other civic services for a corruption free municipality. Speaking as a guest speaker, Manoj Kumar Borthakur wished that the new body of municipality will be able to convert Sivasagar into a beautiful modern town with blessings of all its residents and the business community. Binod Agarwala, president, Marowari Panchayat and other members of SMB also spoke in the meeting.
