GUWAHATI, Nov 25: The first ever Northeast Half Marathon will be conducted on February 5, 2023 at Maligaon, Guwahati in line with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of overall development of north-east & nation building.
A curtain raiser press conference in this regard was held at the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) Indoor Stadium, Maligaon on Friday.
For organising the first of its kind Northeast Half Marathon, NF Railway has joined hands with Innovations India Pvt Ltd. The Half Marathon will be aimed at the empowerment of sportspersons and development of sports infrastructure in north-east India.
Anshul Gupta, general manager, NF Railway along with president NFRSA Rajeev Mahajan gave an insight about the event. Curator of the event, Rahul Bali briefed about the marathon, prize money and trophies to be awarded. The press conference also saw the presence of National Cycling Championship Ronaldo Singh & Rojit Singh, Dronacharya Awardee in Boxing Sagarmal Dhayal, international boxer Kalpana Choudhury and Abdul Barek, international marathon runner. Dronacharya & Arjuna Awardee Md Ali Qamar, former cricket player of India ‘A’ Javed Zaman and sports co-ordinator from Railway Sports Promotion Board Sudhir Hooda were also present.
The Northeast Half Marathon will be a series of marathons that would be conducted across north-east India with the aim of empowering the sportspersons and development of sporting activity in north-east India. The first marathon of the planned series will be held at Maligaon on Sunday February 5, 2023 and approximately 3000 runners from all across India as well as abroad are expected to participate in the race. Prizes worth Rs 11 lakh would be given to the winners in addition to the trophies, medals & certificates.
The aspiring participants would be able to register both online as well as offline for the marathon. The NE Half Marathon would highlight all states of north-east India as one entity and would surely catapult the complete north-east region of India into limelight at both national & international platforms.
Anshul Gupta, general manager, NF Railway said that NF Railway is steadfast in its endeavour of empowering the sportspersons and development of north-east India apart from connectivity and NE Half Marathon is one such step in that direction. Beyond connectivity and promoting tourism, NF Railway is also promoting sporting events in various places within its jurisdiction. Curator of the event, Rahul Bali appreciated the brilliant initiative by NF Railway and felt honoured to be the curator of the prestigious event and contribute towards nation building.
