GUWAHATI, March 4: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has upgraded its Senior Institute at Maligaon into a modern facility named “Kanaklata Bhawan”, in memory of Assam’s youngest freedom fighter, Kanaklata Barua. The institute now offers world-class amenities for railway employees and their families to host social and cultural events.
A renovated community hall, named after cultural icon Bishnu Prasad Rabha, will host social ceremonies and programmes. A children’s play area, “Nahor Udyan” has also been developed within the campus to provide a safe recreational space.
Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, inaugurated the upgraded facilities on March 3, 2026, emphasising that employee welfare remains a top priority. The initiative complements other staff-focused measures, including modernised institutes, enhanced hospitals and renovated schools, aimed at boosting morale, efficiency and dedication.
