Reverse: A success story of Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan

GUWAHATI, Sept 23: In view of the overwhelming response received during the pilot of Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan – Special Health Camp held on August 25, last, NHM Assam on Friday launched the second edition of the special health camp across all the districts of the state under the leadership of Dr M S Lakshmi Priya, mission director, NHM Assam.
The state-level launch was done by the state health minister Keshab Mahanta in the presence of mission director, NHM Assam, director of Health Services, Jt DHS Kamrup Metro, Mayor of Council, ward councilors, state NHM officials and district health officials.
The launch was done at Capital State Dispensary, Dispur on Friday.
Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan (SSA) – Special Health Camp is an initiative by the National Health Mission, Assam to facilitate comprehensive health services, especially for mother and child health, including specialities under National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB), National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP), National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) including AYUSH services among others, all in one location at identified health blocks in all the districts of Assam.
The health camps were inaugurated by MLAs in some districts, deputy commissioners/ADC Health and joint directors in the districts. People visiting the health camps were screened for common Non communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, hypertension, common cancers (oral & breast) among others.
Diagnostic and lab testing facilities were provided for Hepatitis, HIV/STD, urine, RBS among others. Mental health screening, tuberculosis sputum test, leprosy screening among other health services were also done.
More than 15,000 patients were screened during this special health camp, for various diseases till the filing of this report.
Specialists (Obstetrics and gynaecology, Medicine and Paediatrics) present screened pregnant women and children for high risk conditions. Any such cases detected were referred to higher health facilities immediately for health intervention and case management.
Besides health screening and diagnostic services, other activities like routine immunisation, Covid-19 vaccination, ABHA ID card generation, awareness and wellness activities were also carried out in the health camp.
It may be noted that such Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan – special health camps, are planned to be held in all the blocks of the districts in the coming months too.
During the pilot launch of the special health camp on August 25, 2022, a total of 9,384 patients were screened out of which 1,279 (14%) were pregnant women, 645 (7%) were children (0-5 years) and 7,460 (79%) were general patients. Out of the total pregnant women screened, 163 were identified as high risk. Necessary referral and follow up actions were taken by the district health team.
