JORHAT, Sept 24: Police have arrested nine more persons in connection with the blockade of NH 715 at the Ajanta bypass area on Sunday and Monday, raising the total number of arrests to 14.
The blockade, carried out by individuals claiming to be fans of late singer Zubeen Garg, was staged to demand that the mortal remains of the iconic musician be brought to Jorhat before the last rites at Sonapur.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Priyanku Bora (25) of Bohotia Gaon, Jorhat; Bitupon Dutta (30) of Baligaon, Jorhat; Pranjal Deka (28) of Rajotia, Jorhat; Gorisankar Gogoi (38) of Gormur Purana Kaibarta Gaon, Jorhat; Manjit Baruah (26) of Dekagaon, Pejoli Chuck, Pulibor, Jorhat; Sunu Saah (30) of Alengmora Da Gaon, Jorhat; Dulu Moni Bora (45) of Monai Majhi Gaon, Pulibor, Jorhat; Lekhan Robidas (36) of Narayanpur, Panbari, Titabor, Jorhat; and Amal Borah (45) of Gondhiya Gaon, Pulibor, Jorhat.
They have been booked under Pulibor PS case number 122/2025, registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A senior police official informed that video footage of the blockade is being examined to identify those who made inciting speeches and engaged in hooliganism, leading to disruption of law and order.
On Monday night, police had resorted to a mild lathi charge to evict protestors, who had blocked vehicles on the highway for over 24 hours, causing severe traffic congestion.
It was also reported that a section of protestors had allegedly threatened to damage Jorhat Press Club for not providing live coverage through electronic and digital media.
