NITI Aayog’s Sampoornata Abhiyan launched in Dima Hasao

Launch event features pledge, exhibitions, and stakeholder engagements across four aspirational blocks

GUWAHATI, July 8: Dima Hasao district launched NITI Aayog’s Sampoornata Abhiyan under the Aspirational Blocks Programme for two days, on July 5 and 6. The program was first organised at the Diyung Valley Development Block Office in Maibang and Jatinga Valley Development Block at Mahur Higher Secondary School in Mahur on July 5, 2024. On July 6, 2024, the Diyungbra ITDP Block organised the program at Diyungbra Higher Secondary School, and New Sangbra Development Block held it at Karbi Club, Umrangso.

Sampoornata Abhiyan aims to achieve 100 percent saturation of 12 key social sector indicators in all Aspirational Blocks nationwide. Dima Hasao district, representing the Aspirational Blocks of Diyung Valley Development Block (Maibang), Jatinga Development Block (Mahur), New Sangbar Development Block, and Diyungbra ITDP Block, was selected to compete in the Aspirational Blocks programme. This initiative by the government of India seeks to improve the performance and economic development of underdeveloped blocks.

The program began with a pledge taken by all officials and attendees, followed by the inauguration of exhibition stalls installed by various departments, including the Social Welfare Department, Health Department, Agriculture Department, ASRLM, and SHGs. A signature campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from block-level officials, frontline workers, community leaders, local artists, SHGs members, and students.

The event was attended by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council EM Niranjan Hojai, district commissioner Simanta Kr Das, ACS, project director, NITI Aayog Dr Neelam Patel, ADCs, BDOs, and other line department officials.

Gracing the occasion as the chief guest, NCHAC EM Niranjan Hojai emphasised the need for concerted efforts from all major departments to work in convergence and strive for transformation and upliftment in underperforming blocks. EM Hojai added that the three-month-long Sampoornata Abhiyan campaign aims to accelerate development in underdeveloped areas of the block. He reiterated the need for individual support and coordination for the effective implementation of the program. Referring to the health of children and pregnant women, Hojai also emphasised the importance of a balanced diet and healthy nutrition for physical and mental well-being.

Project director, NITI Aayog, Dr Neelam Patel, in her speech, highlighted that the launch of Sampoornata Abhiyan aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for all-round development by involving all stakeholders to improve the indicators under the Aspirational Districts Programme and Aspirational Blocks Programme. She emphasised collaborative efforts from the government and the people for the overall development of the district and the block.

District commissioner, Simanta Kr Das, in his speech, highlighted the program’s objective to bridge developmental gaps by achieving 100 percent saturation in six indicators of the Aspirational Blocks Programme. He identified the six indicators that needed improvement as health & nutrition, education, agriculture & water resources, financial inclusion, skill development, and basic infrastructure. He added that during the three-month-long Sampoornata Abhiyan campaign, various activities and awareness programs on these indicators would be held across the district, involving the participation of the concerned departments.
