SIVASAGAR, May 31: Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) in a release reiterated its demand for 1951 as the cut-off year for NRC up-gradation. Matiur Rahman, executive president of ASM, through the release, expressed serious concern over the alleged irregularities and reports of scams in the up-gradation work of the 1951 NRC.
Rahman while addressing the media in Sivasagar alleged three types of scams –financial, the inclusion of illegal foreigners in the citizenship rolls, and political. He said that the up-gradation authority committed a criminal act against the nation by including foreign nationals’ names in or citizenship register through a specially designed software without a proper check-up of the family roots while depriving a sizable section of original inhabitants. In this anti-national act, some people of different categories like doctors, engineers, government officers, political leaders, and even leaders of so-called Jatiya Sangathans cooperated with the up-gradation process- the release said.
ASM condemned those who worked against the interest of the motherland and made easy money dishonestly.
The release further stated that it was under this circumstance that the present state coordinator of the NRC, Hitesh Deva Sarmah filed a case against his predecessor Pratik Hazela in a CID court under section 120(B), 166(A), 167, 181, 218, 420 and 466 of the IPC. ASM demanded a high-powered inquiry under a retired Supreme Court Judge. ASM alleged that it was shrouded in mystery why Pratik Hazela was allowed to go on transfer to Madhya Pradesh by the then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. ASM demanded a separate inquiry into the episode also.
“The political angle of the scam would be made public soon,” Rahman said.
The press meet was also attended by Kiran Singha, president, ASM, Simaluguri unit.
