Noted film actress, lyricist Renu Mahanta passes away

NAGAON, April 26: Noted actress and All India Radio approved lyricist Renu Mahanta breathed her last at her New Amulapatty residence due to old age ailments today here. She was 87.

Mahanta was the daughter of noted litterateur and former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Mitra Dev Mahanta and the elder sister in law of noted singer and music composer Khagen Mahanta.

Born in June 1 in Jorhat and settled at Nagaon New Amulapatty after tying knot with Lt Hemendra Nath Mahanta, the elder brother of noted singer Khagen Mahanta in 1959.

She also penned three books of songs and social traditions and customs and acted in the popular Assamese feature film ‘Meghmukti’ and other.

Her demise was mourned by several organizations as well as dignitaries of the small town here.
