Guwahati, Oct 06: The ongoing probe into the death of singer Zubeen Garg has taken a turn with one key individual from Singapore now set to arrive in Assam. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Rupkamal Kalita, a member of the Assam Association Singapore (AAS), will travel to Assam to cooperate with the CID and record his statement.
“Rupkamal Kalita will be coming to Assam. Others involved in Singapore will also join the investigation soon. Our focus is to establish the exact sequence of events that led to Zubeen Garg’s death,” Sarma said on Monday, 6 October, that the state expects full cooperation from all those linked to the case.

He added that some individuals had claimed difficulty travelling to India due to restrictions from Singapore authorities or concerns over their jobs. “Despite such excuses, one by one they will have to cooperate. Our police cannot investigate abroad, and that is why help from Interpol has already been sought,” the CM clarified.
The CID-led Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed after public outcry following Zubeen’s death on 19 September, has already arrested the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekharjyoti Goswami, and Amritprabha Mahanta.
A separate judicial commission under a Gauhati High Court judge is also examining the incident. With Kalita’s statement expected soon, the probe may offer new clarity into what unfolded in Singapore before Zubeen’s death.
