Orientation program on youth development concludes

GUWAHATI, June 12: Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development in association with Gauhati University NSS Cell successfully organised a 5-day orientation program for National Service Scheme (NSS) programme officers on ‘Youth Development’ form June 7 to 11 in the GU campus. Attending the inaugural function as chief guest Prof. Dwipen Bezbaruah, dean faculty of Science, GU said that ‘Youth Development’ is a strategic approach with a focus on practices for engaging entire communities in helping all youth thrive. It builds on traditional youth service approaches by emphasising long term, systemic strategies for cultivating qualities and traits desirable in young people through the creation of environments that support their developmental needs and capacities. Dipak Kumar, regional director, NSS, NER, Guwahati highlighted many specific areas of ‘Youth Development’ and also spoke about NSS activities to be carried out in their colleges. Dr. Kottu Sekhar, head, RGNIYD, NER Centre spoke to the participants about concept and definition of youth with special reference to India’s youth and also about philosophy of NSS.
Attending in the valedictory function as a chief guest, Prof. Dhrubajyoti Saharia, secretary University Classes, GU said that NSS units should take up ‘Youth Development Projects’ and specially requested to take up projects on ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ framed by United Nations. Coordinator of the programme Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati said that ‘Youth Development’ is an important topic which plays a vital role for nation building. Dr. Kakati further mentioned that NSS programme officers should play a proactive role in their respective unit colleges for motivating NSS volunteers for community service in the society. Karaiba K Neiigmaii offered a vote of thanks to the participants and guests. Around 45 NSS programme officers from different NSS College units participated in the said programme.
