Over 5000 Kg Of Burmese Areca Nut Recovered

Bokajan, Sept. 09: The police recovered 74 bags of illegal dry Burmese areca nuts from a truck plying on national highway 39 in Karbi Anglong district at 4:30 am in the morning on Saturday.

The police while conducting a routine checking on NH-39 came upon a truck coming from Dimapur. On suspicion the police checked the truck bearing the registration number ‘PB65AX744’, which was loaded with bricks. The vehicle was taken to the Bokajan Police Station, where the bricks were unloaded and from below the building materials 74 bags, weighing 5066.28 kg of Burmese areca nuts were recovered.

In this connection the police arrested four persons, including the driver and helper of the truck. They have been identified as Amrinder Singh, Manoj Singh, Md. Riaj Uddin and Md. Haron Ali.

While Amrinder Singh is resident of Khabra in Punjab’s Rupnagar district, Manoj Singh is a resident of Garolia in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district. On the other hand, Md. Riaj Uddin and Md. Haron Ali hail from Kapali Gaon and Bajimari in Darrang district respectively.

A case has been registered against them and investigation is underway.
