DIBRUGARH, Oct 7: Overnight rain submerged some areas of Dibrugarh town. Vivekananda School Road was the most affected due to the heavy rain on Thursday night.
In the last 24 hours, Dibrugarh received 63.50 mm rainfall, which created a flash flood like situation in the low-lying areas of Dibrugarh town.
“Due to unchecked encroachments near the Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) drain, the flood water from the town cannot flow easily to the drain, which caused waterlogging in some areas of Dibrugarh,” alleged a local resident.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) has been working to mitigate the waterlogging and flash floods problem of Dibrugarh town.
“After every rain, the Vivekananda School Road gets affected. The whole road was flooded in every splash of rain. We faced an immense problem while crossing over the road due to waterlogged streets,” said Somu Pal, a resident of Samsanpara.
