Padmanath Gohain Baruah Remembered On His 76th Death Anniversary

TEZPUR, April 22: On the day of his 76th death Anniversary, the first president of the apex literary body of the region Assam Sahitya Sabha, Sahitya Kandari Padmanath Gohain Baruah was remembered on Thursday with rich tribute by different organisations including Baan theatre, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha and the district administration.

As part of the tribute to the Sahitya Kandari, in the morning members of the Baan Theatre and Tezpur Sahitya Sabha; DC, Sonitpur, Deba Kumar Misra; president, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Dr Bhupen Saikia; president, Baan Theatre, Bankim Sarmah; president of Asam Lekhika Samaroh, Dr Saru Saharia Nath began the programme paid tribute at the bust of great Assamese literary icon which is located near Civil Chariali area at the heart of the Tezpur town. Among others, the programme was  also attended by Internationally acclaimed photo artist Nalini Baruah; Tezpur Municipality Board’s new chairman, Pragyanu Bhattacharya; grandsons of the Sahitya Kandari: Udai Krishna Gohain Baruah and Sanjay Krishna Gohain Bruah; ADC, Romy Baruah; noted educationist Benudhar Kakati; Ramesh Chandra Kalita; noted folk artist Anil Bhattacharya; former TMB chairman, Puspa Deka; secretary, Sonitpur District Academic Council, Bijoy  Kandulana; central executives of Assam Sahitya Sabha: Dwijen Nath and Tarun Lahkar also paid their homage to the literary icon. Members of the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha and teachers of Lakhiram Baruah Sangeet Mahavidyalaya led by artist Mayur Kanchan Borah and Rupam Das sang a chorus. In his speech, DC Sonitpur Deva Kumar Misra spoke on Sahitya Kandari’s contribution towards the Assamese language, culture and literature.
