MANGALDAI, June 17: Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya (PDUAM), Dalgaon, will organise a two-day national seminar on June 29 and 30 under the sponsorship of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi.
The seminar, titled “Tradition of Resistance and Voices of Freedom: Revisiting the Northeast’s Contribution to India’s Struggle for Independence,” aims to provide a platform for academicians, historians, researchers, scholars and students from across the country to discuss the role of the Northeast in India’s freedom movement and various resistance traditions of the region.
According to the organisers, the seminar was originally scheduled to be held on May 11 and 12 but was subsequently rescheduled to June 29 and 30 due to unavoidable circumstances.
The event will feature several distinguished scholars and resource persons, including Rajib Handique, Akhil Ranjan Dutta, noted academician Dinesh Baishya and retired Rajiv Gandhi University professor K. C. Kapoor, among others.
Organisers said the seminar seeks to highlight the contributions of individuals, communities and movements from the Northeast that played important roles in India’s struggle for independence but have often received limited attention in mainstream historical narratives.
An organising committee has been constituted for the successful conduct of the event.
Principal of PDUAM Dalgaon, Lakhi Prasad Hazarika, is serving as the Chief Patron, while Assistant Professor of Political Science Kumar Chandan Jyoti is the Convener. The organisers have expressed hope that the seminar will contribute to a deeper understanding of the historical role of the Northeast in the freedom movement and encourage further research in the field.
