JORHAT, Sept 22: The vice-chancellor of Birangana Sati Sadhani State University, Golaghat, Dr Jyoti Prasad Saikia on Thursday launched PhD programme at Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous), Jorhat.
The new addition to the college which was established in 1930, was formally inaugurated at a ceremony held at the Murlidhar Barua Seminar Room of the institute. The PhD programme will be available in Assamese, Physics and Commerce departments.
Dr Saikia, in his inaugural address, observed that starting the PhD programme was a notable development in the academic field of the State and another significant addition in the institute’s 92 year old glorious journey.
Earlier, Dr Jibon Saikia, coordinator, Research Council of the college, stated the objectives of the function, while Dr Nurul Amin, vice principal (Academic) of the college delivered the welcome address.
Dr Jyotirekha Hazarika, member of the Research Council and a Research Guide of the college moderated the programme, which was attended by several research guides, scholars and faculty members of the college. Associate professor Subhashish Sharma, later delivered the vote of thanks.
