Pijush Hazarika inaugurates Pension Seva Kendra in Sonitpur

TEZPUR, Aug 3: The day Sonitpur district was formed, is a red-letter day in the annals of this historical district.
To commemorate this momentous day, the Sonitpur district administration on Wednesday observed ‘District Day’ with a day-long programme marking various programmes. A cycle rally was flagged off by District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Chatra Bhukhon Gogoi on Wednesday morning from Nehru Maidan, Tezpur at 6.30 am. The rally passed through Tezpur town via Mahabhairab, Darrang College, Dhanua Nagar, Vartak and Tribeni & later culminated at Church Field.
Deputy commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, senior district administration officials, and heads of various government departments took part in the cycle rally. The rally was organised by the district sports office in association with Rengoni NGO, where almost 500 cyclists and students took part. It was followed by a plantation drive near the new (second) bridge of Kolia Bhomora bridge over the Brahmaputra river and along the approach road to the bridge.
Deputy commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra; CEO, Zila Parishad, Karabi Saikia; ADCs Romy Baruah, Pankaj Nagbangshi, Raj Boruah, and other senior officials of the district administration and Forest department officials along with DGM, NHIDCL, Vivek Oberoi and other officials of NHIDCL took part in the plantation programme.
In connection with the august event, chairperson, Sonitpur Zilla Parishad, Dolly Surin inaugurated an exhibition cum sale set up by various self-help groups (SHGs) under Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission at Nehru Maidan, Tezpur in presence of DC Deba Kumar Mishra; CEO, Zilla Parishad Karabi Saikia and senior district administration officials. A couple of stalls selling the national flag at nominal prices have also been set up for the public in line with the ‘Har-Ghar-Tiranga’ campaign while as of the celebrations, the band from ‘Sashashtra Seema Bal’ put up a performance at Nehru Maidan here.
Moreover, a prize distribution ceremony was also held on the occasion where prizes were distributed among winners of various competitions held on the occasion of ‘District Day’. MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava, DC Deba Kumar Mishra, chairperson Sonitpur Zilla Parishad Dolly Surin, CEO Zilla Parishad Karabi Saikia, and other dignitaries distributed prizes among the school children. In the programme, a book ‘Tezpurar POKI’ was also released while the dignitaries present in the programme paid their tribute to the four cultural icons respectively Kolaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Natasurya Phani Sarmah, Rupkonwar Jyoti Prashad Agarwala and Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
It can be added here that in connection with the day, minister for Water Resources, I&PR, etc., Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday inaugurated a Pension Seva Kendra for Sonitpur district under the Kritagyata scheme of the Government of Assam at the office premises of the inspector of schools. Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal; MLAs Ganesh Limboo, Prithiraj Rava, Krishna Kamal Tanti; DC Deba Kumar Mishra; chairperson Sonitpur Zilla Parishad Dolly Surin and officials of the Education department were present on the occasion.
