GUWAHATI, Nov 6: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman and Rajnath Singh, will visit Assam over the next two months to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of several major projects across the state.

Speaking at an event at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra here, Sarma said the visits by top national leaders would mark a series of landmark developments aimed at propelling Assam’s growth.

“In the coming days, Assam will welcome a galaxy of national leaders, including Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji, to inaugurate transformative projects,” Sarma said in a post on X.

The Chief Minister said Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit the state twice—first in December this year to inaugurate the new terminal of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport and to lay the foundation stone for the 12.7 lakh metric tonne ammonia-urea plant at Namrup.

The plant, to be set up within the existing premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd (BVFCL), was approved by the Union Cabinet in March.

The Prime Minister will return in January 2026 to inaugurate the much-anticipated Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge over the Brahmaputra, besides dedicating other key infrastructure projects including the elevated corridor in Kaziranga, the Silchar–Guwahati expressway, and IIM Guwahati.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam in the last week of December or the first week of January to inaugurate the Jyoti–Bishnu Auditorium, a 5,000-capacity complex in Guwahati, and roll out projects at Batadrava, the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.

Shah will also address a meeting of BJP booth committee presidents during his visit.

Before that, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive on November 8 to inaugurate the Brahmaputra riverfront development project and the Gateway of Guwahati’s ship terminal at Uzan Bazar.

She will also visit the semiconductor unit at Jagiroad to interact with around 300 young entrepreneurs.

Later the same day, Sitharaman will lay the foundation stone of Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University at Gohpur, to be developed at a cost of Rs 400 crore on 771 bighas of land.

The tender process has been completed and construction will begin soon, Sarma said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on November 9 to attend an Indian Air Force air show at Lachit Ghat, featuring advanced aircraft including Rafale and Sukhoi fighter jets.

The event is being organised as part of the Air Force’s 93rd anniversary celebrations.

“These projects will propel Assam’s growth to new heights and reflect the state’s rising stature in the new India,” Sarma said, adding that the state is witnessing unprecedented development through concerted efforts of both the Centre and the state government. (With inputs from PTI)
