GUWAHATI, Sept 23: Swagat Super Speciality Surgical Institute & NH situated at Maligaon, Guwahati received the nod and approval of the central body for being one of the few accredited hospitals of Assam under NABH.
Notably, National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers, abbreviated as NABH, is a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QCI), set up to establish and operate accreditation programmes for healthcare organisations. Formed in 2005, it is the principal accreditation for hospitals in India
Organisations like the Quality Council of India and its National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers have designed an exhaustive healthcare standard for hospitals and healthcare providers. Hospitals are assessed on over 600 parameters, the standards are divided between patient centred standards and organisation centred standards. To comply with these standard elements, the hospital needs to have a process-driven approach in all aspects of hospital activities – from registration, admission, pre-surgery, peri-surgery and post-surgery protocols, discharge from the hospital to follow up with the hospital after discharge. NABH aims at streamlining the entire operations of a hospital and enables the organisation in demonstrating commitment to quality care and patient safety thereby ensuring best clinical outcomes. It raises community confidence in the services provided by the health care organization as services provided by credentialed medical staff.
Administrators audit these major hospitals including private hospitals and Government hospitals for patient safety and quality every year.
The director administration of the hospital, Prof. Swagata Khanna informed that NABH hospitals are also the most patient friendly hospitals, where treatment is provided by qualified and trained staff using well maintained medical equipment with standard protocols of treatment for better patient safety. All NABH accredited hospitals have to maintain those standards as NABH team assesses every year to ensure maintenance of high standards of care.
Swagat Super Speciality Hospital has also received the necessary approval to have its own Institutional Ethics Committee by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of India.
