GUWAHATI, Aug 13: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally handed over appointment letters to a total of 1,127 persons at a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in the city on Tuesday.
This brings the total number of recruitments during the tenure of the present state government to 99,097.

The chief minister handed over appointment letters to 266 posts as Junior Engineers (Practical) in the Public Works Department, 812 posts as Staff Nurses in the Medical Education and Research Department and 49 posts in Class IV (MTS).
Sarma said that the Assam government had recruited 4,779 persons in 2021, 35,130 persons in 2022 and 48,638 persons in 2023. He said 3,595 persons have been recruited in 2024.
In parallel, 6,955 recruitments have been made in BTR, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous Councils from the budget of the Assam government.
“This brings the total number of recruitments completed by the state government to 99,097 till date,” Sarma said.
Sarma said the state government will be 100 percent successful in fulfilling its promises after only 903 recruitments. He said the recruitment of teachers in Assam was going fast but no recruitment for engineers was taking place for a long time.
He said that such a large number of engineers and junior engineers have never been recruited in Assam before.
He said that recently a better environment has been created for the education of engineering colleges in the state.
Addressing the engineers recruited in the Public Works Department, Sarma said it is very important to take care of how to apply the technical knowledge they acquire in the workplace during their student life.
“Many times engineers rely on the contractors themselves and conduct field inspections quite infrequently. They even often abandon the habit of preparing estimates. This increases the risk of construction failures,” he said, adding that roads in Assam do not stay good for more than three years.
Chief Minister said 812 staff nurses have been recruited in four newly constructed medical colleges in Nagaon, Nalbari, Kokrajhar and Tinsukia. He said the government has provided 203 staff nurses to each of these medical colleges and this will alleviate the shortage of nurses in the medical colleges.
He said the medical colleges in Nagaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar were officially inaugurated last year and the admission process will start in Tinsukia medical college this year. This will bring the number of medical colleges in the state to 13.
He said the 14th medical college in the state will be inaugurated in Guwahati next year and the second medical college in Guwahati will be named Pragjyotishpur Medical College.
He said at least 8,000-10,000 ANMs and GNMs have been recruited by the National Health Mission and the state government so far. Alongside the development of health services in the public sector.
He said the revival in the medical sector in the state has not only benefited the patients but also enabled the recruitment of a large number of human resources.
“In case of the death of a married employee of the state government, the remaining salary of the employee is paid to the spouse of the employee every month. The government has now decided to make some changes to the system and pay 20 percent of the compassionate amount to the parents of the deceased employee,” Sarma added.
