DIPHU, April 22: Alleging illegal appointments in the Health & Family Welfare Department under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in the Joint Director of Health Services, the Karbi Students Association (KSA-Thangsing Timung) and others protested in front of the KAAC Gate.

Participating in the protest the president of KSA, Thangsing Timung said, “We are protesting against the illegal appointments. We have got documentary evidence. If the executive member (KAAC, Health & Family Welfare), Khonsing Rongpi dared to give a clarification let him do so as KAAC is not his personal property.”

It may be mentioned that an advertisement was published in 2019 for 30 posts of Grade III and Grade IV in the office of the Joint Director of Health Services.

RTI activists Podmo Teron and Hemphu Engti alleged that illegal appointments were made in which relatives and family members of the EM Rongpi were appointed. The two RTI activists started their protest three days back at KAAC gate here.

The president of KSA, Timung alleged that in all the 30 departments under KAAC, all job appointments were made not on merit basis and deserving candidates were deprived. Relatives of big shots of Karbi Anglong cornered the jobs. As the chief executive member of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang used to say that appointments will be made on merit basis, it should also be done in the office of the Joint Director of Health Services.

RTI activist Podmo Teron alleged that the practice is not limited to the office of the Joint Director of Health Services but in other departments as well. The protest will go on until appointments are done on merit basis.
