Rabha Divas Observed Across Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, June 20: The vibrant spirit of Rabha Divas echoed through various locations in Karbi Anglong district as communities came together to pay tribute to the esteemed composer, artist, and singer, Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The commemorative events were held with great enthusiasm and reverence, showcasing the enduring legacy of Rabha’s contributions.

In Bakalia, the Bakaliahat HS School playground served as the venue for a grand observance of Rabha Divas. The Assam Sahitya Sabha spearheaded the initiative, while the Karbi Anglong District Sahitya Sabha and Bakaliaghat Branch of Sahitya Sabha played crucial roles as hosts. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Rongbong Terang, Padmashree recipient and former president of Assam Sahitya Sabha. Terang reminisced about his memorable nine-mile journey to Hojai solely to witness Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s mesmerizing performance in the movie ‘Erabatar Sur’.

A highlight of the occasion was the release of a commemorative souvenir by Barim Engti, the president of Karbi Lammet Amei, adding to the historical significance of the celebration.

Prominent personalities from the literary and cultural sphere attended the program, including Dr. Suryakanta Hazarika, President of Assam Sahitya Sabha; Subarna Saikia Bordoloi, President of Sadou Asom Lakhika Samaroh; Bhoben Chandra Koch, President of Karbi Anglong District Assam Sahitya Sabha, and several others. Their presence added to the grandeur of the event, demonstrating the unified respect and admiration for Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

Meanwhile, in Bokajan, the Bokajan Regional Committee of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) also commemorated Bishnu Prasad Rabha Divas at the esteemed Bokajan Sports Complex Auditorium Hall. Attendees solemnly paid their respects by offering floral tributes to a portrait of the legendary artist. The organizers arranged a multitude of engaging activities such as drawing, singing, dancing, and poem recitation, specially designed for children to embrace and celebrate Rabha’s artistic legacy. The day culminated with the distribution of certificates and prizes to the young winners, acknowledging their exceptional talents.

Notable personalities who graced the event with their presence included Tridip Gogoi, former Secretary of AASU Karbi Anglong District Committee; Arnob Joyti Kakoti, President of AASU Bokajan Regional Committee; Madhurjya Dhekiyal Phukon, Member of Autonomous Council; Bedanta Saikia, Sports Secretary of AASU, among others. Their support and participation further emphasized the significance of honoring Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s invaluable contributions.

Rabha Divas left an indelible mark on Karbi Anglong district, fostering a deep sense of cultural appreciation and unity among its residents. The celebrations served as a poignant reminder of the immense artistic heritage left behind by Bishnu Prasad Rabha, an iconic figure who continues to inspire generations.
